Franny 1 vs. Corruption

Pope Francis 1 launched the investigation which resulted in a lot of convictions for financial chicanery.

A Vatican court has sentenced Italian Cardinal Angelo Becciu, a former adviser to Pope Francis, to five-and-a-half years in jail for financial crimes.

Becciu, 75, was the most senior Vatican official ever to face such charges and once seen as a papal contender himself.

The trial centred on a London property deal that ended in huge losses for the Catholic Church.

He strongly denied charges including embezzlement and abuse of office....

We're talking about nearly $1 Billion in losses and questionable spending.

There have been rumors and rumblings about Vatican finances for years.  It is ironic that Franny 1, of all people, may have stopped much of the problem.  But let's give him credit for that deed.

Good for him. Five and a half years is a short sentence for a billion dollar crime, but at 75 it might also be a life sentence.

Like all things with him, I'm sure there is far more to this than meets the eye.
