A lot of noise is made over Trump's Article Two authority to impose tariffs.
You will note that during the arguments, John "Julia" Roberts referred to the tariff as a "tax." So did Gorsuch, if I heard it correctly.
They are mal-educated or propagandists. Either way, they are wrong on the language.
Webster's on "Tariff":
1
a: a schedule of duties imposed by a government on imported or in some countries exported goods
b: a duty or rate of duty imposed in such a schedule
Do you see the word "Tax" in there? Roberts does. Maybe he is over-educated.
Now let's go to "Tax".
1
a: a charge usually of money imposed by authority on persons or property for public purposes
Roberts does--as does Gorsuch. Of course, Gorsuch is a Libertarian so he's blind to a lot of things.
Maybe that distinction is too obvious out here but somehow gets lost in the D.C. cocktail circuit.
... So, let’s talk about the global tariff war and how it is on the brink of collapse. If the trade war continues, the chaos we have today will go on and the endgame won’t be good for the US. But should the Supreme Court overturn Trump’s tariffs, the situation could be even worse for the US economy. We have crossed the Rubicon and there will be huge consequences no matter the outcome....... Now, how do we know the administration is panicking? We just need to listen to Scott Bessent. He’s throwing every reason out into the wind. Nothing makes sense, but he’s still trying to hold on for dear life.
Bessent: That’s President Trump has used to balance trade to negotiate with the Chinese on fentanyl to secure rare earth magnets to get the Indians to stop buying Russian oil. And you know that the solicitor general made a fantastic case that the purpose of the tariffs is to rebalance global trade. We are in an economic emergency and President Trump has brought the US back. ...

You're such an idiot. Look up the definition of duty as it is in your first example.
Dad29 is having a conniption fit.
Tariffs are taxes on imported goods.
Typically, the charge is a percentage of a good's value.
For example, a 10% tariff on a $10 product would mean a $1 TAX on top - taking the total cost to $11.
The tax is paid to the government by companies bringing in the foreign products.
These firms may pass some or all of the extra cost on to their customers, which in this case means ordinary Americans and other US businesses.
They may also decide to import fewer goods.
I'll type real slow for both of you. T-A-R-I-F-F. Twice as many letters as "T-A-X" Of course in Capper's case, he benefited from the collapse of US manufacturing!! More welfare cases for him and never a loss of HIS job or very generous benefits.
I told you to look it up but you chose to double down on your stupidity.
A duty is a tax levied on certain goods, services, or other transactions. Governments commonly impose customs duties on imports and exports to regulate trade and protect domestic industries.
Gee, how about that? A duty IS a tax.
Oh, and by the way, Daddio, I retired early six years ago, ironically, thanks to Act 10. Thank you for your generosity.
I mean both are extortion by the government. It’s very technical to draw further distinctions.
I think we need a good history on the Wiemar republic because we are there.

Well, then, here is the IMPORTANT question: Cui Bono?
Who benefits from tariffs (duties)--which make foreign-made goods more expensive and thus encourage made-in-USA purchases--which in turn require US factories employing US citizens?
All sorts of goods are made in the USA: cars, appliances, clothing, foodstuffs. What's that old Capper-Approved jingle....Look for the Union Label.......right?
See, when you make a small sacrifice to give a neighbor a leg up with a decent factory job........oh..........wait..........that's the same as giving that neighbor a leg up with cash assistance, right, Capper?
Talk about dumbasses.
Cool, Daddio! Except for one little problem. Reality doesn't agree with you.
Unemployment is up. Businesses are closing. Farrmers can't find anyone to buy their prduce and are going bankrupt.
You see, other countries can just refuse to buy our products and get them somewhere else. Furthermore, they can slap tariffs on us, making things even more expensive and basically double taxing Americans. Funny thing is that I thought you hated taxes, and now you want to double them, just like you keep wanting to double down on your dumbassness.
Extortion? No.
