BRP Marine Group announced Thursday that it would lay-off 363 employees from it's Sturtevant manufacturing plant, according to a letter sent from the company to the Department of Workforce Development."BRP" is Bombardier Recreational Products, which purchased Outboard Marine Corp in 2001 following OMC's bankruptcy caused by the EPA's strictures on 2-cycle engines. OMC also manufactured Johnson outboard motors and Lawn-Boy OPE products, another dead brand.
BRP is a Canadian company that makes recreation vehicles and parts. It will no longer be making Evinrude E-TEC and E-TEC G2 outboard engines which means those associated with that process will soon be out of a job....
At one time, Evinrude had a very large plant on Milwaukee's north side, plus manufacturing facilities in Mexico and its Sturtevant parts warehouse. It was a Milwaukee-born company with a great line of goods--until EPA happened.
