Mark Pocan (D WI) is a slimy little jackwad who thinks the elderly are damn fools. We concede that the elderly who voted for Pocan are damn fools.
But not all of the elderly voted for him, and not all are damn fools.
See if you can find Pocan's greasy-pawed trick here:
...The Protect Social Security and Medicare Act would raise the vote threshold to two-thirds in Congress on any measure that would reduce either program’s benefits. Pocan introduced the bill with Dem colleague U.S. Reps. Lloyd Doggett, of Tex., and Maxwell Frost, of Flo. Pocan in a statement said the measure would stop proposals to cut benefits that lack widespread support....
How very nice of him!! He'll assure the bankruptcy of the programs while making himself sound like a savior.
What Pocan (Slime-WI) should have done? Legislate a Social Security tax increase of about 1 percent (half employer, half employee) and raise the upper limit of SS-taxable income to $250K. That would resolve the Social Security problem in a snap. (Calculations done by Ticker.)
Medicare is a different problem; the Democrats (and girly-boy Republicans) have added benefits galore while refusing to add tax revenue to offset them; thus, Medicare is now spending SIX TIMES what it takes in from the Medicare tax.
Pocan doesn't have a solution that makes him a savior, of course. That would require fortitude, a virtue sorely lacking in his resume.
