Charlie Wilson's War: More Lefty Propaganda

It's kinda cute, it is certainly instructive, and it's more Lefty propaganda.

Conservative officials who served in the Reagan administration are upset by the left-wing slant of the new movie about the covert action program that helped Afghan guerrillas defeat the Soviet army during the 1980s

The Reagan-era officials said the movie promotes the left-wing myth that the CIA-led operation funded Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda and ultimately produced the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Bin Laden, the officials said, never got CIA funding or weapons, and was not directly involved in Islamist extremist activities until years after the Afghan operation ended after the withdrawal of Soviet troops in 1989.

The movie also erred by showing Mr. Wilson and his CIA collaborator, Gust Avrakotos, as enthusiastic backers of supplying advanced U.S. Stinger anti-aircraft missiles to the Afghan rebels

And, by the way, it wasn't just "Good Time Charlie":

"Senior people in the Reagan administration, the president, [CIA Director] Bill Casey, [Defense Secretary Caspar] Weinberger and their aides deserve credit for the successful Afghan covert action program, not just Charlie Wilson," Mr. Ikle said in an interview

Surprise, surprise. Hollywood produces a factually-inaccurate movie.

Next thing you know, they'll be claiming that Joe McCarthy was wrong (and served on the HUAC, too.)

I hate to sound like a broken record, but there's no surprise. Holloywood's memory has been selective for as long as I can remember. Merry Christmas, Dad!

This is obviously Hollywood propaganda.

First, American did engineer the Afghan invasion to bring a down fall to the Soviet Union. This action started under Carter, but Reagan had the determination to finish the job by bankrupting the Soviet Union with continued arms build-up and the proposed missile defense system.

Many blame Reagan's actions for 911 and the terrorist mess that we are in now. However, in 1994 Bill Clinton received a 10-year intelligence report making it clear that the threat of the new Millennium would not be from Nations or Armies but from terrorists and providing a list of actions to diffuse this threat. Unfortunately, Clinton trashed the report as he was too busy unbuttoning his pants in the Oval Office and starting diversion wars like Bosnia.

First the libs tried to blame Reagan for creating 911. Since that hasn't worked, they are now trying to take away his biggest accomplishment by crediting it to one of the most corrupt Democratic congressman to disgrace the Capitol Building. Well, what's good for the Goose is good for the Gander. If Charlie Wilson brought down the Soviet Union through funding Afghanistan than he should get all credit, including that for 911. To quote ending to the book on which the movie is based, on 911 Charlie Wilson watches footage of the twin towers falling and states "my God, what have I done."

I love the internet. We, here, in other countries, get to see just how messed up your country is. The bizarre thing is, your right (such as you, obviously) and your left are pretty much as screwed as one another. I'm what you'd call "left wing" (the vile American term that is, anyway) and I loathed that film. I don't see the split between left and right in it, I just see another piece of American propagandist, pro-war rubbish. Just like all the ight-winged American propaganda.

May your country one day find truth as an ideal, instead of egocentric righteousness over a world it seems to think it is in charge of.

Love,
Australia
