This 'transvestite murderer' thing goes back quite some time. Ed Gein, one of Wisconsin's ugliest memories:
...Between 1947 and 1952, he exhumed the bodies of nine freshly-buried women, bringing the corpses – along with the women he murdered – back to his farmhouse, where he would flay them and cut up their bodies. Gein was a transvestite who dressed himself not in the clothes of his victims but their skin. ...
There are three movies loosely based on his murders, and Hollywood is about to belch forth another one. This causes one to wonder even more about Hollywood writers and producers who, along with their television brethren, push multiple perversion tales into the public eye.
