Don't you love it when some dude yaps about "the future" as though he knows what "the future" will be?
Republican lawmakers on the study committee looking at the future of the University of Wisconsin want to know what Wisconsin families are getting for the $1.3 billion the state currently spends on the university, and what they should expect if the state spends more....
...[UW System President] Rothman once again told the committee the UW needs more money, needs to bring in more students and needs to stabilize the finances at many of its campuses....
And that's because:
... many of the jobs of the future will require college degrees.
Tahhh Dahhh!!
...“The Wisconsin Policy Forum did something recently that said over half of the jobs that they believe will be created in Wisconsin with an annual salary of $50,000 or more will require a college degree,” Rothman told the committee. “Ninety percent of the jobs that are $75,000 or more will require college.”...*
Rothman and his peers should take a walk outside the faculty lounge some day. And the Wisconsin Policy Forum folks should take a very hard look at what a "Bus Ad." or "Arts" degree really contributes to one's ability to sell, manage people, lay out a factory floor, provide customer service, or effectively procure goods for a factory's needs.
...“My son’s friends from high school who just graduated are making $50,000 as assistant managers at KwikTrip. They don’t need a college degree,” [Rep.] Nedweski added.
Want a Day One $50K? Be a plumber's apprentice, a finish carpenter, a machinist, an electrician, or a good mechanic.
Or work at KwikTrip.
*Experts also predicted Hillary in '16 and told us that Ivermectin was useless against Covid. The founder of IBM told his associates that the world would never need more than one computer. We can go on about 'committees' and 'experts.' But this is enough.
