Petraeus v. Petraeus: Now an Older Fool

Never let it be said that Gen. Petraeus has a useful contribution to make on Afghanistan.

Last night he was awarded an interview on Fox News during which he pleaded and whined for continuing US Armed Forces involvement in the heroin capital of the world.  "Teh Taliban!!!  Teh Taliban!!"--sounding like Herve Villachaize on the island.  As though most Americans give a flying damn that the Taliban will have control of some pleasure-spots, exactly as Afghani citizens allow.

The General has a short memory, no?

Petraeus in 2010:

...Inside the Oval Office, Obama asked Petraeus, “David, tell me now. I want you to be honest with me. You can do this in 18 months?”

“Sir, I’m confident we can train and hand over to the ANA [Afghan National Army] in that time frame,” Petraeus replied.

“Good. No problem,” the president said. “If you can’t do the things you say you can in 18 months, then no one is going to suggest we stay, right?”

“Yes, sir, in agreement,” Petraeus said.

“Yes, sir,” Mullen said....

Everlasting war is good for generals and defense contractors, which is the very definition of the "military-industrial complex" cited as a danger to this Republic by none other than General of the Armies Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Think Petraeus could get his thoughts to line up with each other?

Nah.
