Dreher has his moments, and even though the essay he writes is about the population decline of the Church in America, this paragraph can be applied to +Listecki's lazy yawn over the homosexualist invasion of the priesthood here.
...I think it’s fair, however, to blame the institutional Church for
failing to take seriously the situation, and to respond appropriately.
In my view, it is unreasonable to expect the institutional Church to
understand the moment, because understanding the moment requires most of
its bishops and pastors to regard the world in a way they find deeply
disagreeable, and to change their policies and behavior in kind. They
would much, much prefer to manage decline than to repent....
We recognize that it's a lot easier for +Listecki to sit around and hope that nothing will go wrong; that no rapes or harassment will happen, and that Massingale and his comrades (there ARE many here) will keep their fat traps shut.
After all, doing nothing except showing up at church picnics and cutting radio spots is very easy, indeed.
So he'll manage the decline.
For contrast, look only one Diocese west, to Madison. Seminarians all over the place....
