Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said that the U.S. government’s long-term fiscal commitments are “unsustainable,” but that they should not be the country’s top priority, because the government still needs to “do things.”
Here's what you "do", Timmy.
Cut 20% of Gummint staff across the board, for starters. And zero out travel/entertainment budgets.
That's "doing" stuff.

Geithner's statements are entirely reasonable.
The EU is in the process of "doing stuff" like you want, Dadster, and they're also in the process of depression, default and eventual EMU break-up.
"Do stuff" in 10 years. Doing stuff now doesn't help anyone.
