We've cited Moynihan on occasion. He was a very smart guy who carried a (D) label, but was no cookie-cutter Left-Blob member.

That was in 1980. At the time, Moynihan was primarily speaking about private-sector charities:
No better evidence for this threat exists, Moynihan added, than the way “the non-government enterprises of public concern” who sat before him were being “squeezed out of existence or slowly absorbed” by government.
It's possible that Moynihan was also thinking of private-sector commerce, of course.
And he would have been right.
