CTA Thinks Highly of Itself (!)

Somehow, I think this campaign will fail:

Nicole Sotelo, codirector of national Call to Action, said her organization intends to mount a letter-writing campaign to Lincoln, Neb., Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz, with copies to Bishop William Skylstad, bishop of Spokane, Wash., and president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The letters will protest Bruskewitz's refusal to comply with the bishops' conference policies on child abuse by clergy, she said. Asked about the timing of the campaign, just after an announcement that the Vatican has upheld the excommunication of the Lincoln chapter of Call to Action, she said it would counter Bruskewitz’s "attempts to silence" the organization. "Justice cannot be silenced," she said.

My, my. Some uppity woman seeks to govern the Diocese of Lincoln with a postcard campaign.

OK. After CTA's actual membership (all 78 of them, nationwide) writes their letters, then what?

If recall from a year ago, a USCCB woman tried to confront Bishop B. about not implenting a lot of the sex abuse stuff. Bishop B. wrote the famous that 'some woman' letter. He promptly told her that she had no standing to tell him anything about governing his diocese. I apologize for the space this will take, but maybe they will receive this letter from Bishop B.
Some woman named Patricia O'Donnell Ewers, who is the Chair of something called "A National Review Board for the Protection of Children and Young People", has said that her Board "calls for strong fraternal correction of the Diocese of Lincoln." The Diocese of Lincoln has nothing to be corrected for, since the Diocese of Lincoln is and has always been in full compliance with all laws of the Catholic Church and with all civil laws. Furthermore, Ewers and her Board have no authority in the Catholic Church and the Diocese of Lincoln does not recognize them as having any significance.

It is well known that some of the members of Ewers' Board are ardent advocates of partial birth abortion, other abortions, human cloning, and other moral errors. It is understandable then how such persons could dislike the Diocese of Lincoln, which upholds the moral teaching of the Catholic Church.

The words attributed to Ewers seem to confirm the suspicion that the members of her Board are unfamiliar with Catholic teachings, Catholic ecclesiology, and even the basic rudiments of the Catholic Catechism. Rather than concerning themselves with the Diocese of Lincoln about which they appear completely ignorant, Ewers and her colleagues would occupy themselves in a better way by learning something about the Catholic religion and the traditions and doctrines and laws of the Catholic Church.

The Diocese of Lincoln does not see any reason for the existence of Ewers and her organization.

I recall the letter well. As you suspected, it was the reason that I used the phrase "some....woman."

BpB is correct, of course. Under Canon Law he reports directly to the Pope. There are no intermediaries; the USCC exists, but it could be the NFL for all its status under Canon Law.

Oddly (by the way) Tom Roeser, a conservative Catholic from Chicago, knows and likes Ms. Ewers. He thinks there was a mis-understanding between her and BpB which could have been ironed out.

Well, maybe...

I wrote a couple of days ago a roundup on CTA and their latest (and failed) challenge to Bishop B.'s excommunication which had attracted some attention. You may read it here.

Theo: nice summary. Also read your bio on the blogsite. Our last Archbishop here was also a Latrobe man.

And your Diocese has an interesting resident--a podiatrist, if I'm not mistaken, who was also a contributor to FR until a few years ago.

Small world, eh?

It so happens that said podiatrist with his missus, along with my missus and meself, will be meeting for lunch in approximately 1 hour at a local waterhole.

Small world indeed!

It's bad enough that CTA embraces various Modernist and some Gnostic heresies, but that they would cloak their agenda under the banner of "Protection of Children" is disgusting.

Present and accounted for!
