About That Signal Chat: We Have A Question

There is lot of smoke and a feeding frenzy over some reporter for the teen magazine "Atlantic" getting into a secure chat-room discussion of the Houthi problem.

NSA Mike Waltz took responsibility, but it was one of his staffers who added the reporter.

Waltz appeared on a Fox show and mumbled sumpin' sumpin' about a "false ID" on the phone that was added, implying that the phone number was a spoof used by the reporter.

Really?

Occam's Razor poses this question:

Was Waltz's "staffer" in on the scam, purposely setting him up by allowing a co-conspirator (Goldberg) in on the call?  Remember that most of NSA/CIA/FBI "staff" in D.C. are absolutely committed to destroying Trump, which logically extends to destroying his appointees.

Would you be surprised to learn that an NSA staffer pulled this stunt?

We would not.

But we will entertain Pure Stupidity.

UPDATE:  Honored to join The Other McCain in this line of thought.

It’s certainly possible, however, bear in mind that the acronym NSA has two distinct meanings. The National Security Advisor heads the National Security Council, both of which are located in the Old Executive Building on the White House grounds. They work directly for the President and are typically changed out completely when the President’s party changes. Thus, probably the NSC staffer who works for this NSA is a loyalist.

The other NSA is the National Security Agency (often called No Such Agency). They are a large and very secretive part of the intelligence community. Definitely many people hostile to the administration work there.
