Anyone who knows the history of these two outfits will not be surprised. Both Alverno and Mount Mary admit trannies.
“In the Catholic tradition of caring and respect for each human person, we support students on their journey of self-discovery and recognize that gender identity may change over time.” --That's Alverno's blather.
“As such, MMU* strives to create an environment that is inclusive of all gender identities and intersectionality,” the website states. “At the undergraduate level, all individuals who identify as women (including cisgender and transgender women), intersex individuals who do not identify as male, and non-binary individuals are eligible for admission to MMU*.” --The more wordy, less-meaningful blather of Mount Mary College, *which calls itself a "University" because it sounds a lot better, ain'a?
Alverno was run by the Order of St Francis (OSF) nuns, which merged with the SSSF (School Sisters of St Francis) a couple of decades ago. In the late '60's, Sr. Joel Read became the president of the college and it lurched far-Left almost immediately, although it's fair to say that Catholic orthodoxy was not a Big Brag at that school.
Mount Mary was run by the School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND) and still may be, but nobody really cares. The Big Brag there is "fashion design"; they offer a degree in that discipline (?).
What they have in common: desperation over student-numbers decline. To counter that, Alverno admits applicants with ACT scores between 15-21. Only 40% of its students graduate in 4 years. Mount Mary is more selective, admitting ACT scores of 17-21. 47% of its students graduate in 4 years.
Both of those institutions have less than 800 students and are granting about half the 'list price' of tuition. That's a problem; another small, local Catholic college (Cardinal Stritch) closed a couple of years ago, and a local Lutheran college (Missouri Synod) announced a few days ago that it was in financial trouble. (Ironically, that Lutheran college owns and occupies the former headquarters building of the School Sisters of Notre Dame.) As enrollment declines, colleges tend to "grant" more scholarships and aid, which drains resources, and enrollment in all colleges and universities is generally declining. So they're all chasing a smaller and smaller pool of applicants.
There is good news in all this!
...A spokeswoman for Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome Listecki provided the Register with the archdiocese’s 2022 “Gender Theory Policy,” which states that “single-sex schools” are “restricted to persons of the designated biological sex.” The policy argues that charity demands truth and that recognizing a disconnection between biological sex and gender identity “opposes the truth of our sexual unity.”
“Our Gender Theory Policy applies to all Catholic parishes, schools, universities, colleges, and organizations that operate within the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Our Policy Implementation Team is aware of some inconsistencies and is working to correct them,” said Sandra Peterson, communication director of the archdiocese, by email....
+Listecki can force those colleges to stop using "Catholic" as part of their self-description. That's not often done; +Weakland forced a grade school to stop using "Catholic" due to that grade school's opposition to many of his policies. (That had the salutary effect of increasing that school's enrollment...)
Anyhow, we shall see if the Archdiocese (and +Listecki) enforce their policy. +Listecki has already handed in his resignation (age) and expects to disappear early next year.
A Franny1 replacement? ......... well, you can imagine......
