"Low-Income" Development a Real Scam

A "low-income" apartment development put together by a few novice "developers" (with plenty of City and Federal money provided) opened up to residents.

That didn't last long; the place--a former factory--was spewing TCE, a carcinogen.

Now we see just how much a scam this "development" actually is.

...WISN 12 News obtained about 40 photos from inside the apartments, where there are gaping holes in beams and walls.

The developers are now required to submit weekly testing and reports to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources per an emergency order.

In the latest report, they submitted dozens of photos which revealed "visual observations included gaps between masonry walls and flooring, cracks and holes in the flooring and walls, open pipes and cracked wood columns ... Widespread detection of TCE in wooden columns and bare brick walls ... Floor 1 has the highest concentrations of TCE, particularly in and around Units 1045 – 1052,"...

As we mentioned earlier:

...Led by Que El-Amin, the people creating Community Within The Corridor at West Center and North 32nd streets include a hip-hop artist, a nearby resident who helps feed her neighbors and a nonprofit training program coordinator...

Cool.

It would be interesting for a reporter to demand all correspondence between the local alderman and the "developers",  their engineers, architects, finance-sources, and contractors.  Also between the alderman and the housing-permit authorities, don'cha think??
