Mike DeWine, the Flim-Flam Man

 Noted for the obvious reason:

Republican Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced on Friday that he is banning sex-change surgeries for minors while still enabling parents to procure puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for their children....

A few days ago, DeWine vetoed a law which would have done almost the same thing.

You say "Wut???"

...The governor announced his executive order, as well as several proposed rules on the subject, during a press conference days after vetoing a GOP-led bill that would have protected children from both sex-change procedures and hormones and women and girls’ sports teams. ...

First off, DeWine's "parental rights" line is gravely flawed.  Parents do not have a "right" to contradict nature, nor to destroy it.  That's Public Policy 101.  But DeWine is a politician, not constrained by ethics nor morals.

The real Flim-Flam here?  Unlike a law, an EO can be reversed with the stroke of a pen.  That's what Big Medicine is counting on--along with endless litigation against DeWine's "rules."

He thinks Ohioans are really stupid.  Maybe he has a case:  after all, they elected him.

Top Ohio Republicans, including the secretary of state, Frank LaRose, are now urging the state legislature to reverse the governor’s decision by overriding his veto.

“We have a duty to protect safety and fair competition for female athletes and to protect children from being subjected to permanent, life-altering medical procedures before the age of 18,” LaRose said.

The Republican speaker, Jason Stephens, announced this week that the Ohio house would reconvene on 10 January, weeks earlier than scheduled, in an attempt to revive the bill before the official start of the 2024 legislative session. Republicans hold a supermajority in both chambers of the Ohio legislature, meaning Stephens’ push to sidestep the governor is likely to succeed.

“It is disappointing that the governor vetoed House Bill 68,” Stephens said. “The bill sponsors, and the house, have dedicated nearly three years to get the bill right.”

And the Ohio house wasted no time overriding the little ferret faced Bastard once again……

….The Ohio House has voted to override Gov. Mike DeWine’s veto against Ohio House Bill 68 in a 65-28 vote. This bill would ban transgender minors from receiving gender-affirming medical care and prevent transgender girls from taking part in girls’ and women’s sports.

The Ohio Senate will vote on whether to override the veto on Jan. 24. Legislators need 60% of the vote in both houses to override the governor’s veto….
