Our Truth-O-Meter awards the Local Rag's "fact check" a Bozo-Nose "100% False" rating.
...When listing legal ways migrants can become U.S. citizens, Grothman pivoted and said citizenship is incorrectly granted to their children born in America....
Grothman is correct, and the paper's cite of 2 SCOTUS decisions is misleading (they're lying.)
In the first case (US v Wong Kim) the lying fact-checker ignores the plain text of the summary, which reads:
A child born in the United States, of parents of Chinese descent, who, at the time of his birth, are subjects of the Emperor of China, but have a permanent domicil and residence in the United States, and are there carrying on business, and are not employed in any diplomatic or official capacity under the Emperor of China, becomes at the time of his birth a citizen of the United States...
"Permanent domicil[e] and residence"...."carrying on business".....
A permanent resident IS a legal immigrant, not an illegal immigrant. And illegals are only sometimes "carrying on business."
So that decision does not support the "Fact Check" claim.
The second case brings another artful re-definition by the lying "Fact Checker" and probably SCOTUS.
[In Plyler v. Doe] ... the court reasoned undocumented immigrants are people "in any ordinary sense of the term"...
Being "people" is not the same as being "a citizen." SCOTUS may hold that "people" are owed public education, but that argument does not get to the Grothman statement's question of "citizenship."
The Far-Left--which includes Gannett and its piddly-twink branch offices--has consistently lied and/or obfuscated the reality of 14th Amendment decisions. It's what they do.
We repeat: this "Fact-Check" earns a Big Red Bozo-Nose FALSE rating.
That's why their circulation is down by--what?--60% or so in the last 5 years.
