Democrats in Slave-Trader Uniform: It Fits.

Nobody ever accused the Democrats of being aware.

...Now it turns out that the particular pattern the Dems chose to flaunt was historically worn by rich African slave owners and traders! USA Today noted that in the days following the Democrats’ stunt, social media users pointed out the cloth’s historical ties to the slave trade. From the article:

Kente cloth was worn by the Ashanti. It’s made of silk so the affluent wore it. The Ashanti were also known as slave owners and traders. … The Ashanti’s long-time ally, the Akwamu, were among the first ones to profit from the slave trade with the Europeans. Their captives were almost always prisoners of war. …
Actually it's fitting, given the Democrat Party's slavery-loving history in the South and its current position as Owners of the Plantation.

Let's be accurate here. Southern CONSERVATIVE plantation owners who were Democrats. By the late 1850s, the Democratic Party was split over the issue of slavery. Northern Democrats generally opposed slavery's expansion while many Southern Democrats believed that slavery should exist across the United States. In the presidential election of 1860, the Democratic Party split in two, with Stephen Douglas running for the Northern Democratic Party, and John C. Breckinridge representing the Southern Democratic Party.

"Opposed expansion".....of slavery......doesn't exactly ring the Freedom Bell, does it?

But yah. We Conservatives have to live with the Rockefeller Pubbies, so I get the angst here.
