The Lutheran Revolution

Now and then you read something which is very, very revealing.

Grim posted a think-piece worth reading, and in the middle of it was this:

Martin Luther held the opinion that, because a child such as August was a "changeling"—merely a mass of flesh, a massa carnis, with no soul—he should be drowned.

A number of Catholic authors have referred to the founding of the Lutheran church as a 'revolution.' That revolution has had echoes in society.

Interesting...

But that sentiment is completely erased from Luther's Catechism.... And the Wisconsin and Missouri (my) Synods are completely pro-life.

ELCA... probably a lost cause along with the Methodists and the other "mainline" Protestants.

Yah. I have to admit that I've never heard such stuff from Lutherans I know, and I know the track records of the Synods you mentioned.

I've never understood the Wisconsin Synods prohibition of scouting.

Neither WI or MO Synods do girl scouts... mainly because the national girl scout org is now firmly supports abortion and the modern "feminist" agenda.

MO Synod had Cub Scouts at our old school, I thought WI allowed Cub Scouts too.

Because he chose in the end to reform from without the Church instead of from within, he separated himself from fatherly correction where he certainly needed it. This is the same man who burnt the Summa Theologica.

According to wels.net the joining of scouting by young men is still prohibited, or at least strongly discouraged. I guess the Scout Oath

"On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight."

and the Scout Law

"A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly,
courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty,
brave, clean, and reverent."

Is not compatible with Lutheran doctrine.

Sad really, like the Westborow Baptist Church in a way.

Not sure what to tell you David. I'm not WELS, so don't know the fine points of their scouting thing.

But I know enough of folks that are WELS to know that they are most certainly not anything like Westboro... of which every conservative, Christian, and darned near everyone I know thinks are a bunch of inbred cranks (to be nice).

By "like" I was referring to the practice of targeting an honorable institution to propagate an uninformed doctrine.
