Last November, the bishops received a briefing on some conclusions researchers have derived from their report, “The Nature and Scope of the Problem of Sexual Abuse of Minors by Catholic Priests and Deacons in the United States.”
They say the crisis has nothing to do with homosexuality.
Margaret Smith, a data analyst, said researchers believe “the idea of sexual identity [should] be separated from the problem of sexual abuse.” She insists that no connection has been found “between homosexual identity and an increased likelihood of sexual abuse.” This was seconded by the study’s principal investigator, Karen Terry: “Someone can commit sexual acts that might be of a homosexual nature, but not have a homosexual identity.”
And rainfall has nothing to do with cloud-cover.

The Church will not overcome this problem until it abandones one or both of two tenets:
1. Homosexuality as sin
2. Celibacy of Vocations

Spice, the Catholic Church didn't make it a rule that Homosexuality is a sin. God did. God also said many other things were sins, such as sex outside of marriage and lying. So, the Church can't change that. As to the rest, I'm not Catholic, but the whole Church isn't guilty for the actions of deviants.
Things that only the intellectualoids can believe...or things that only non-intellectuals are unwilling to admit.

So, if we say homosexuality is no longer a sin, abuse will go away? Or does that merely mean what these priests did will no longer be looked at as bad?
And since people from vocations that do not require celibacy have been guilty of sexual abuse, your second point is beyond idiotic and...what's the word I'm looking for? Oh, that's it - false.
So how do you explain why priests sexually abuse boys at a higher rate than other occupations?
I be happy to explain my theory related to the bullet points above, but I'd like to get your theories first.
Spice, one other thing. Allowing a Priest to marry also would not likely change anything. The man that molested me, while not a priest, was married with 3 kids. As to why boys? I dunno. I've never been able to explain deviancy.

Other denominations which allow female, gay, and married clergy have had problems with pedophile/pederast priests, with coverups occuring as well. Go to http://www.pokrov.org regarding the Orthodox. Google for stories on pedophiliac Hasidic rabbis. Or, leaving out religion altogether, consider that a child is safer with a Catholic priest than with a public school employee.
