The Part-Time Obozo Economy
I suppose that part-time work is better than none at all.
If you don't have to make full-time payments....

The quantity component was good enough to convince the 10 Year the taper is imminent (if not stocks, which continue to trade dislocated from any and all fundamentals). But how about the quality? In a word: not good. In June, the household survey reported that part-time jobs soared by 360,000 to 28,059,000 – an all time record high. Full time jobs? Down 240,000. And looking back at the entire year, so far in 2013, just 130K Full-Time Jobs have been added, offset by a whopping 557K Part-Time jobs. Zimmerman Case Goes Off the Edge
This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone with common sense.

Choose Your Society Carefully
Grim posts a multi-link brief essay which deals with "intermediary institutions" and their power. It should be noted that those institutions span a very wide timeline in Western history and are the real "civil societies."
There is also a very important distinction between "civil society" and "Government," It is so important that various Governments (e.g., that of Stalin and his successors & hangers-on in Eastern Europe) found out to their chagrin that the Intermediaries/Civil Societies prevailed--not "the Governments." That's why Stalin attempted to stifle them by any means necessary.
That's a warning to the Ruling Class, and they ought to heed that warning. We are currently troubled by the pestilence of Obamism and his desire to stifle the Catholic Church, which is merely the latest step in Government's slow march toward Totalitarianism. A more "benign" totalitarian move--yet to be fully implemented--is ObamaCare, which will demolish the intermediaries run by the Church(es) and private medical charities, not to mention the A.M.A. and its subsidiary organizations.
IRS is, of course, the tip of the spear. Not for nothing is it said that the power to tax is the power to destroy. But IRS, while the tip, is reinforced by other elements of the Hydra: EPA, HHS, EEOC, NSA, DofEnergy, DofEducation, and their pale imitators in State and municipal Governments, all of which are invariably supported by the shafts: Attorneys General, State revenooers, and the play-military LEO goons who are inexorably working towards an "us/them" of which "us" allies itself with Government and "them" is anyone who gets in the way. (Dogs are a convenient metaphor, by the way.)
There are exceptions, of course, at this time. Clarke of Milwaukee, along with a loose organization of other Sheriffs; the "Oath Keeper" group of current and ex-military officers, and the Church which, while embattled in its own homosexual-predator mess, has not given up on the First Amendment.
How many others are there? When will they declare that '...when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security....'?
It will happen sooner than Government and its Ruling Class think. In Egypt, it took less than two years for Obama to lose his Islamist ally.

Wisconsin Republican Gov. Scott Walker told a local newspaper Tuesday he not only supports the Senate immigration bill but that it should go further, calling the legislation merely a “Band-Aid.”
He elaborated on the Ryan gambit:
...Walker added that there needed to be “a larger way” to reform the system to make immigrating easier. “Because if it wasn’t so cumbersome, if there wasn’t such a long wait, if it wasn’t so difficult to get in, we wouldn’t have the other problems that we have.”...
Umnnhhh....Gov'nor: the "problems we have" are called "illegals." And since the Senate bill famously does nothing, nada, zip, zero about securing the border, the "problems we have" will continue for a long, long, time, such as the problem with IRS' generosity to illegals.
It's not a surprise that Walker favors cheap labor, given his list of backers. What IS a surprise is his casual disregard for border control (and by extension, national security.)

The ObozoCare Slam, UPDATED!!

...What we call "the employer mandate" is actually a monthly IRS reporting requirement for certain employers (generally, those with more than 50 full-time employees) created by ACA sec. 1513. Covered employers who fail to report or do not meet the requirements for affordable care must pay a penalty to IRS (or, if you like, a tax).

So you may, or you may not, lose your health insurance (see below for the effects of losing it.)

It's not hard to imagine that an employee who is ObozoSlammed on 1/1/14 will spend quite a bit of time trying to figure out which ObozoPlan to purchase--and then spend another pile of time enrolling in that plan. Suppose that will be paid time-off?
And then, of course, there's the cost of the premiums. IRS opines that an average-coverage family plan will run about $20K/year. But what if you need more than the "average" plan? Will that be $25K? $30K?
We're told that there will be some sort of tax credits to offset the cost. How much? How will the credits be paid? What if your income changes (up OR down) during the plan year?

It is interesting and germane that the columnist did not address the question of compensation, no? Did Mr. Nassim choose NOT to interview with some Wisconsin firms because they would not meet his salary expectations? Do other "best and brightest" immigrants do the same? We'll never know, will we?

Mr. Still flat-out ignores the fact that the "short supply" of native-born STEM people has to do precisely with the compensation afforded those individuals vis-a-vis the cost of obtaining their education. Repayment of college loans for a US education is a monster burden, and as long as foreign-born H1-B STEM grads can undercut salary requirements due to college-cost differentials...well, do the math yourself.
The case of Mr. Nassim is cynically used in a fashion reminiscent of Shrillary's "...it's for the chillllruuun!!" ravings, and the columnist goes on to elide pertinent but inconvenient facts.
That is a good definition of propaganda, friends.

Your IRS: Screwing You, Paying Illegals
Seems as though there are lots more problems with the IRS.
...Howard is a tax examiner at the IRS's ITIN processing center in Austin, Texas...
...A four-month Eyewitness News investigation documented how many illegal immigrants use ITINs to get tax credits and refunds they're not entitled to. WTHR also exposed how millions of undocumented workers get their ITIN applications approved using phony documents.....
"We were being told by upper management to ignore fraud, to assign ITIN numbers and ... pay out refunds to people who are lying," Howard explained. "It's a license to steal when you allow that."
Howard and five other tax examiners at the ITIN processing center in Austin all told WTHR the same thing: for years, IRS managers have instructed them to "look the other way" while processing ITIN applications that appear to be filed fraudulently – even when those applications contain clear signs of criminal activity.
For example, Howard received a stack of ITIN applications for dozens of children attending the same school in South Carolina. (Adult tax filers can request an ITIN for a child if they want to claim that child as a dependent in order to get child tax credits and a larger tax refund.) When he researched that school, he discovered it didn't even exist. When Howard reported the apparent scam to his bosses, he claims his managers ordered him to approve the applications anyway....
Yah. That's likely related to this story we linked the other day.
Oh, by the way:
...A few days after Howard met with WTHR, the IRS slashed his job performance rating which will affect his paycheck. The IRS claims every aspect of Howard's job performance dropped during the past six months, shifting his overall rating from "exceeds fully successful" to "minimally successful." Howard believes the poor review is retaliation for blowing the whistle on his managers. He wonders what might happen next....
The guy ought to be appointed as a special prosecutor, with the entire IRS management as his target.

Wisconsin conservatives, though, say the rulings leave states free to address gay marriage as they see fit and the decisions don’t change things here.
``Our marriage protection amendment in this state is still valid and will continue to be,’’ said Julaine Appling, president of the conservative group Wisconsin Family Action. ``Wisconsin voters adopted it. Nothing in (the rulings) said we can’t do that.’’
And this:
...Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, R-Burlington, said he interpreted the rulings to mean states can set whatever policy they want on gay marriage and he doubted Wisconsin’s ban would change ``any time soon.’’
Republican Gov. Scott Walker’s spokesman said in an email to The Associated Press the rulings don’t appear to affect Wisconsin law...

Ahmuty knows that the Wisconsin amendment barring gay "marriage" is dead meat walking. This is not "if." It's "when."
