Evinrude Outboards: Dead

Although the announcement is cryptic, Evinrude outboard motors will no longer be produced.

BRP Marine Group announced Thursday that it would lay-off 363 employees from it's Sturtevant manufacturing plant, according to a letter sent from the company to the Department of Workforce Development.

BRP is a Canadian company that makes recreation vehicles and parts. It will no longer be making Evinrude E-TEC and E-TEC G2 outboard engines which means those associated with that process will soon be out of a job....
"BRP" is Bombardier Recreational Products, which purchased Outboard Marine Corp in 2001 following OMC's bankruptcy caused by the EPA's strictures on 2-cycle engines.  OMC also manufactured Johnson outboard motors and Lawn-Boy OPE products, another dead brand.

At one time, Evinrude had a very large plant on Milwaukee's north side, plus manufacturing facilities in Mexico and its Sturtevant parts warehouse.  It was a Milwaukee-born company with a great line of goods--until EPA happened.
