It's one thing to hear the lying from Democrats; they lie all the time.
It's another thing to hear it from a "conservative stalwart" like Glen Grothman (R-WI).
So when Grothman called in to the Jay Weber show the other day and flatly stated that 'there is a 1% reduction in spending' built into the debt ceiling bill, he was lying.
By omission--but lying.
In fact, the 1% reduction is contingent:
...It also requires Congress to approve 12 annual spending bills or face a snapback to spending limits from the previous year, which would mean a 1% cut....
See what he did there? If Congress approves 12 annual bills, then there will be no "reduction." Grothman just "forgot" about the 'if.......then' reality.
Further, if Congress approves those 12 annual bills, it may increase spending by roughly 1% from today's super-bloated level. Not the level of 2022, nor of 2021, but of 2023. How much you wanna bet against Congress going for the increase? Will you bet your life on it?
AND there will be no debt limit until after the next election--and after the next budget is passed. So Treasury may well borrow up to $3-4 trillion to finance that 1% increase in spend.
Maybe McCarthy got all he could, but I doubt it. McCarthy likes spending other people's money, too, and the FBI/NSA bunch probably has the pictures to make it happen.
