Eisenhower and Kennedy called them "advisers."
They were combat troops, of course. Special Forces, then called "Studies and Observations Group".
The French originally colonized Viet Nam under Napoleon III because France needed captive foreign markets for its expanding economy. However, Viet Nam nationalists, influenced by the communists in China and Russia, revolted; eventually, despite US support, the French lost at Dien Bien Phu in 1954 and arranged for a division of the country into north and south.
The US then sent "advisers" to South Viet Nam and wound up supporting Ngo Dinh Diem, who was the first President of the country. But he was not terribly popular in large parts of the country and his government had serious corruption problems. He also liked to murder his opposition. The US' commitment to keeping him in power (he was OUR S.O.B., after all) grew and grew....
Then there was war.
A corrupt Government, not terribly popular with all its constituents, fighting a war against communists.....gee........does that sound familiar?
As in Viet Nam, the US has no abiding nor compelling national interests in Ukraine.
But here we are, with "auditors" checking on the billions of equipment Bai-Den sent there.
Auditors. Advisers. And 58,000 dead Americans.
You'd think the WarMonger class could be a bit more clandestine, but they can't help themselves. Raytheon, Oshkosh Truck, General Dynamics, and TRW all need revenue, too.
Priorities!
