Haven't really paid attention to SNL since Jane Curtin left. Apparently they had a very deep-thinker there for a while: Norm McDonald.
This very brief obit (?) at American Conservative produced a couple of startling items.
...For many, comedy is a cynical exercise of enumerating the irrational absurdities of life. Not so for Norm, as he said: “Smart man says nothing is a miracle. I say everything is.”...
That is McDonald, not Chesterton. But it's Chesterton's take, too.
...“The Enlightenment turned us away from truth and toward a darkling weakening horizon, sad and grey to see,” tweeted Norm, “The afterglow of Christianity is near gone now, and a stygian silence lurks in wait.”...
That's the position of any serious Christian--especially a Catholic. And his vision of these times is remarkably clear.

He was the only, truly funny, SNL cast member in my lifetime (I’m 41). He was so outraged about OJ Simpson’s acquittal that he wouldn’t let it go, and it got him fired in 1998, I believe. He was never unkind, even if he poked fun. May he rest in peace.
He was not only incredibly funny, even just his voice was comedic, but he was a good actor. We enjoyed him so much on The Middle. Clearly he was an intelligent and principled man who refused to back down or say something he didn't mean. What a rarity! Yes, God rest his soul.
If you haven't heard his "Moth joke" on Conan O'Brian, a show I never watched, it is totally worth that 5 minutes. Hilarious. When comedy was actually funny.
