What we hear from NPR and Douthat is that 'the economy is better now' than before.
Nope. It's not.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes a handy little measuring-stick called "Average Weekly Hours Worked." That is where the truth becomes clear. In the linked table, you can see that--in fact--the average hours worked in December of 2014 and October of 2015 are identical. (The later two months of '15 are estimates, and are not "better" either.) "Identical" is not "better."
It IS true that, in constant dollars, the median weekly wage has risen by $10.00 from 4Q14 to 4Q15, or about 3%. But the number of workers has risen only slightly compared to 4Q07--less than 1%. Are there less working-age people in the US since 2007? Really??
One expects NPR to puke out the ObozoPropaganda. Douthat should know better, but ya'know: New York Values are in the mix.

ObozoGummint v. Families
Below this post, we show that the ObozoGummint is a threat to the Judaeo-Christian culture.
Here, they set themselves up against families. Surprised??

Mike Vanderboegh's Testament Contra The Donald
Mike Vanderboegh is going the way of all flesh: "....es ist du Gras..."
He has a thought on the political scene. It's serious, and it should be taken seriously. Mike's an ex-Communist and thus has a perspective which is worthwhile.
...The Founders, whether Federalist or Anti-federalist, perceived the dangers of demagoguery to their new Republic as being the greatest threat it faces. Here are two representative quotes from either side of the argument at the time:

The Republican Establishment's Two-Front War
The way Limbaugh analyzes it, The Establishment is fighting two wars at once. And they are probably going to lose one or the other, maybe both. (Reince should have an updated resume.)
The Party regulars (elected RINOs) and camp-followers such as consultants, congressional staffers, money-takers like the Chamber of Commerce membership, accountants and lawyers who love the IRS Code and the Regulatory State--you know the bunch--are fighting against Ted Cruz.
On the other front, the same bunch is fighting The Donald.
They are two very different fights.
Ted Cruz is the real enemy to these people. Ted Cruz will fight them tooth and nail, as he has proven on many occasions. He will call them out for what they are: whores and liars, just like former congressman Mark Neumann did (and still does; just ask him.) Ted Cruz is an existential threat to everything they are. (To me, that makes him the very best choice. YMMV.)
...they hate Cruz. They despise Cruz because they're afraid of Ted Cruz. At the Republican Party conservatism is an outlier. Conservatism is something to make fun of or be afraid of. Conservatism is something that you only make a pretension of accepting, but in the inner sanctum where the people that run the show really are, you're not gonna find any real conservatives in there. They're gonna be laughed at and mocked and manipulated or what have you. And Cruz, they can't manipulate him, they can't, as the vernacular is, do deals with him. He's doctrinaire. He believes it. He's persuasive with it. He can articulate it. And it's just scares the heck out of 'em, because in both things are at stake here, in a sense.

On the other hand, Trump is vilified NOT because he is an existential threat, but because he is not One of Them. Trump does not want, and does not need, The Machine. (That makes him an interim guy; he will break things, but not go to war with The Left. That will have to wait for another day and perhaps another Opposition Party.
...there is a natural enmity to outsiders, to intruders. And when an outsider or intruder gets in, gets a nose under the tent and starts making noise, then the establishment lifelong members start caucusing together to figure out how they can get rid of this intruder who might just shake everything up. When it comes time to get rid of the intruder all they know to do is what they've always done. They go to their playbook. Whatever party politics playbooks there are, they go to them.
And so when you hear a lifelong political professional, consultant, fundraiser, donor, whoever, when you say, you hear them say, "Well, you know, Trump, he doesn't have a ground game. I mean, come on, you can't win without a ground game. You can't just fly in and do speeches. Even if 30,000 people show up, you gotta have a ground game." They're trying to make themselves feel less frightened. Because what's really going on is the potential here that everything so many people have relied on that's made them rich, that's made them famous, that's given them power, is on the verge of being destroyed and turned upside down. ...
Nobody can make the case that The Donald is a conservative. He's not.
On the other hand, nobody can make the case that Cruz is an Establishment Guy. He's not.
So. Why does Cruz get all that money from small donors? Why does The Donald draw yuuuuge crowds?
Because both of them spit on The Republican Establishment.
And that, my friends, is what Limbaugh headlined it with:
...people, Republican voters and donors, look at all this, and they think there's a genuine crisis happening in this country, a genuine crisis that threatens the very existence of this country as founded.
They don't see any opposition to it in the Republican Party. They see opposition to it pooh-poohed, laughed at, made fun of. To them, the people who make this country work, there's a genuine crisis for their kids and their grandkids. So when it comes to being loyal to conservatism or libertarianism or whatever, that's of secondary importance to stopping what's happening. Which, translated, is opposition to the Democrat Party, opposition to the American left, opposition to liberalism, communism, Alinskyism, whatever you want to call it.
It's opposition to Hillary Clinton, opposition to Bernie Sanders. That is what is motivating, energizing, and inspiring this. And that is not recognized, it's not acknowledged, it's not even given any respect at many areas in the Republican Party. So what are people gonna do? They're not gonna say, "You know what? I must make sure that conservatism does not get watered down in whatever..." It's way beyond that now. Ninety-four million Americans are not working. The border is wide open. Floods of unskilled, uneducated, non-English speaking people are arriving here monthly, and they will work for diddly-squat or go on the welfare state rolls.
In either case, they're squeezing the people in this country who are working, limiting their opportunity for wage increases, career expansion, and forcing them to pay tax increases necessary to fund an ever-expanding welfare state. They don't want to be part of it. To them, it's not about compassion. The Constitution's not a suicide pact to them. They love the country. They want it to survive. They don't want it being destroyed. They don't want it tampered with.
They don't want it transformed. They have thought for eight years that there was an opposition party joining them in this effort and they haven't seen it. Now, we've got this internecine fight going on over who's a real conservative and who isn't, and to me all this is so much bigger than that. It's momentous. It is profound...
This is not hard, folks. Add up the Cruz and Trump RCP poll-numbers and they total about 54%. ALL THE REST have a combined total of about 36%.
Keep the popcorn handy, and buy more ammo!!

Not only is Robin Vos a liar regarding the UW-Madison's Mengele-like experimentation on fresh baby parts from Planned Parenthood; the UW-Madison is also lying about it.
...According to one of the published studies, UW researchers obtained hearts and brains from babies aborted “between 10 and 18 weeks of gestational age” within five minutes of the procedure. “After the procedure, the heart was grasped with sterilized surgical instruments and carefully isolated from the rest of the thoracic content to be placed in RNAse-free plastic tubes. Fetal brain was also collected in the same fashion.” The documents ADF obtained prove the university obtained the hearts and brains from Planned Parenthood....
I guess some actual journalist might ask Robin Vos exactly why he is lying about it--and while they're at it, they might ask Robin Vos what he thinks of the lying scum at UW-Madison.

"With a (Multi-Culti) Whimper..." The REAL Church Failure
Steyn was right in 2006 and that hasn't changed. Too bad the US Bishops (and those in Germany, France, and Italy) were asleep at the birth-control switch, eh?
Much of what we loosely call the Western world will not survive this century, and much of it will effectively disappear within our lifetimes, including many if not most Western European countries. There'll probably still be a geographical area on the map marked as Italy or the Netherlands--probably--just as in Istanbul there's still a building called St. Sophia's Cathedral. But it's not a cathedral; it's merely a designation for a piece of real estate. Likewise, Italy and the Netherlands will merely be designations for real estate. The challenge for those who reckon Western civilization is on balance better than the alternatives is to figure out a way to save at least some parts of the West.
It's the demographics, stupid.
And if you need a memento mori, from today's smartest Cassandra, here's one:
Permanence is the illusion of every age. In 1913, no one thought the Russian, Austrian, German and Turkish empires would be gone within half a decade. Seventy years on, all those fellows who dismissed Reagan as an "amiable dunce" (in Clark Clifford's phrase) assured us the Soviet Union was likewise here to stay. The CIA analysts' position was that East Germany was the ninth biggest economic power in the world. In 1987 there was no rash of experts predicting the imminent fall of the Berlin Wall, the Warsaw Pact and the USSR itself.
But hey--we have toys!!
While the US Catholic Conference has busied itself with inane position papers on 'welcoming refugees', liturgical shenanigans, single-payer healthcare, opposition to the Second Amendment, and climate change, it has also presided over the effective depopulation of the US.
And I don't see the Lutherans, Episcopalians, or Baptists as guilt-less, either.

An ex-NPR reporter manages to construct a fairy-tale about national security legislation.
This is the bullshit that they believe in "New York values."

Lies, Murder, and Rep. Vos
Mr. Popcorn, a/k/a Robin Vos, proves the verity of the old saw that 'lies and murder are bedfellows.'
See, Robin Vos really, really, really, likes murdered babies being subjects of "research" at UW-Madistan.
So he lies about it. On television.
...Vos lied when he claimed on television (2:15 mark onward) that aborted fetal tissue is not used in research in Wisconsin.
“Now, luckily, it [aborted fetal tissue research] is not occurring,” Vos told WISN television’s Mike Gousha before complaining that, “There are some [lawmakers] who want to go further, and they want to work on um, trying to eliminate some potential types of research, and I just have a serious concern about what type of affect that will have on the UW.”
But the University of Wisconsin has used aborted fetal tissue in research, and contrary to Vos’ claims, pro-life lawmakers have narrowly targeted their proposed aborted fetal tissue research ban at research that uses fetal tissue from abortions....
For some strange reason, Mr. Vos defends UW's practice of buying chop-shop baby parts.

The War on Car Drivers--and Car Dealers
These two items are related.
The first is from Peter DeLorenzo, a genuine "car guy" with long experience in the industry (advertising-side) and a regular blogger on the topic of cars, Detroit, and the people in the Big Three.
...it’s clear that this business is rushing headlong into the Abyss of The Unknown. Why? Because two decidedly different perspectives are about to square off and neither one of the factions involved knows where it’s all going. Well, that’s not exactly true. One faction is quite clear about ending the automobile business as we know it; the other is out to control the crash while getting a cut of the action.
It’s the Connected, Autonomous, Ride-Sharing Imperative Zealots vs. The Future of Transportation Realists.
On the one side are the Zealots of the anti-car intelligentsia, which consists of The Masters of All They Survey, aka the feverishly brilliant (just ask ‘em) hordes in Silicon Valley; the California government auto regulators, whose primary mission in life is to tell the rest of the country what’s good for us (even though with each new strident edict we could all care less), and of course the carpetbagging hordes in Washington, those usual stumble-bum suspects in the political ranks who continue their self-aggrandizng dance of egregious ineptitude.
The Zealots believe that we will all soon exist in a Shiny Happy World where cars will appear at our beckoning and then disappear to Some Other Place, which presumably will be out of sight and out of mind. Like Iowa. I can just imagine the rationale now: “Oh, I don’t know. Who cares? Ick. We’ll figure that out later!”
The Zealots are all about freedom from the “tyranny” of the automobile, the one (albeit popular) conveyance responsible for all of our problems, both real and imagined. The Zealots aren’t content with just snuffing the life out of the dirty, intransigent automobile business. Oh no, they want to gain control of it first of all because everyone associated with the auto business as we know it is just so relentlessly incompetent. (Didn’t you get that memo? It’s well documented.) Then they not only want to eradicate it from the face of the earth, they want to purge it from our history while they’re at it, dismissing the entire exercise as “The Regrettable Unpleasantness.”...
Self-driving cars? "Cars-on-demand"? Uhhmmmmnnnn....maybe. But maybe not.
Anyhow, closely related to that movement is Tesla which--as you should know--is living on its tax benefits, NOT on profits from building cars. And Elon Musk/Tesla is fixated on demolishing car dealers. (Hint: That will give Tesla more profitability AND it will facilitate the ultimate triumph of the "dream car" which does not use hydrocarbons and is permanently wired to the internet (translate: Somebody's-Watching-You-Net.)) Oh, yes, that "car-on-demand"? The key is this: you don't own it and you can't take it whenever/wherever you want to go.
Tesla, in its quest to eliminate dealers, testified before the FTC yesterday. (We'll get back to "FTC" in a minute).
....at an FTC workshop on those dealer laws, Tesla general counsel Todd Maron struck back.
Part of the reason that the dealer laws aren't changing in the US is because of GM's efforts (among other entities, like dealer networks), Maron said. He repeated Barra's quote to the assembled crowd and said, "This shows that [GM's] interest here is purely competitive," he said, instead of being concerned about their dealerships or GM customers. "They are actually touting their ability to block us from selling directly and the fact that our customers can't buy our cars as easy as theirs."...
The FTC? Why there? Two reasons. First, Musk/Tesla want to have the Feds declare that dealerships amount to a 'restraint of trade' construct.
Second, because Obama and his cabal are part of the Zealots (above); the Intellectualoids who want to demolish the auto industry. One of the routes to doing that is to drain the dealerships of profits--and a big piece of that puzzle will be to eliminate car-dealer indirect financing. They want to eliminate thousands of risk-taking job-creating entities who, by and large, are conservative.
How to do that? Simple. Have the FTC declare that dealer/indirect financing is "discriminatory," just like Carter and Clinton did to the mortgage industry. Whether that is true or not is irrelevant. Whether it works or not is also irrelevant. The point is to Federalize the whole thing.
Big ambitions, eh? It might take 20-50 years. But they'll keep working at it.

When Obozo Refuses to Indict Hillary.....
I suppose that that title may be presumptuous, but not by much.

But in the final analysis, a democracy cannot exist without the consent of the governed. For that percentage in opposition, consent will have broken down pretty much completely. Then what? Civil war? That's perhaps a bit excessive, but civil wars can be of various types and evolve in different ways. All kinds of things could break down, which could result in anything from general disobedience to the law to mass tax refusal. Millions would no longer respect the system.
Loretta Lynch, Obama, et al, are actually facing a giant tinderbox...
