Homeland Security has officially notified the bishops there are credible threats to the safety of Catholic churches, clergy, and bishops if the Supreme Court overturns Roe. Violence has been called for beginning the night such a decision is handed down....
We joke a bit that in my parish, should a goblin start waving a gun and screeching about abortion "rights," there would likely be 40-50 concealed weapons brought to bear at any typical Mass.
But that's not really a joke. And there are a lot of other churches in this area which have many parishioners with the same mind-set.
If my pastor asked, he would easily get 2 dozen volunteers to provide armed security for him and the parish facilities. Only big discussion would be over who takes the midnight shift.

The Church should reinvigorate knightly orders for this purpose. It’s a very traditional form of service with a long history of theological justification.
