Parents, through a law firm, asked the Elmbrook District to justify its pornographic "reference" materials kept in school libraries.
Here's part of the letter they got, apparently from a clone of Grand Muff Tarkin.
Further, as indicated in your letter to the District, public elementary and secondary schools, along with publicly funded libraries, are exempt from the criminal code regarding the availability of sexually explicit materials used for educational purposes. The code also includes clear legislative intent regarding educational materials kept by school districts that may be sexually explicit- a message conveniently left out of your letter and references. The statute includes a provision (Wis. Stat. § 948.11(4)(a)) that speaks to the importance of “protecting the financial resources of libraries and education institutions from being expended in litigation and to permit these resources to be used to the
greatest extent possible for fulfilling the essential purpose of libraries and institutions” (emphasis added). The same provision also recognizes that educational institutions serve an important purpose of making available materials that are reflective of the “cultural diversity and pluralistic nature of American Society.” Therefore, materials serving educational purposes related to sex, human growth and development are legally permissible in our school libraries and resources.
This snot-nosed bureaucrat should review the history of Grand Moff Tarkin. It was not a pleasant end for him, but he earned it.
