The Silly Blather of +Cupich

Sometimes people say things that are just plain stupid.  'Darkened minds' and all that.

Take Cardinal Cupich, for example.

..."The price Ukrainians pay for their freedom is too high. I always reiterate in America that Ukrainians are fighting for the same freedom we have, for the opportunity to determine their own future," said Cardinal Cupich while in Lviv. "That is why the democratic world must unite and bear the burden of war with Ukrainians. After all, in many ways, we are all Ukrainians today because we strive for self-determination and freedom so that no one from outside dictates to us who we are and how we should act."...

Granted, in only the political context, the Cardinal's statement is somewhat correct.  But rather than just spout off in the political domain--where he has no real competence nor authority--the Cardinal should have been far more nuanced; then he might have sounded like a real Churchman.

A real Churchman would have stated that 'we strive for the self-determination and freedom to earn salvation; only God can tell us who we are and how we should act.'

To state that 'we all must bear the burden of war' for any other reason is not within the competence of Cardinal 'Cupcake' Cupich.

But if he wants to live out his foolish chatter, we'll buy him an M-4 and a few hundred rounds plus a plane ticket to Kiev.

We suspect that many Chicago Catholics will chip in.
