Oooooooooooh. That Smarts!

A failed candidate for the Darwin Award.

Has to do with 22KV transformers and relieving oneself.

I wouldn't have thought you'd be a fan of the Darwin Awards. Too sciencey. Perhaps something more biblical like the She Bear Awards in honor of the taunters of Elisha.

Jim:

1) We Catholics are allowed to believe in evolution, you know..

2) I like the idea of the "She Bear" awards (thinning hairline)...but how would one select winners?

I know, but the Church also recognizes global warming but that doesn't sway Dad.

Somehow, I don't recall the Vatican pronouncing that the 'warming' was MAN-CAUSED, nor that it was remediable by bringing Western civilization to a halt.

Even I recognize that global temps had ramped up until around 2000.

We differ on two not-so-minor points:

1) whether it is AGW; and
2) whether it is within normative cyclical observations.

I simply say that it is NOT AGW pure, and that it IS within cyclical norms.

From the INTERVENTION BY THE HOLY SEE AT THE 15th SESSION OF THE COMMISSION ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
OF THE UNITED NATIONS ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL (http://bit.ly/vatican-agw):

"The scientific evidence for global warming and for humanity’s role in the increase of greenhouse gasses becomes ever more unimpeachable, as the IPCC findings are going to suggest. ... Thus, in order to address the double challenge of climate change and the need for ever greater energy resources, we will have to change our present model from one of the heedless pursuit of economic growth in the name of development, towards a model which heeds the consequences of its actions and is more respectful towards the Creation we hold in common, coupled with an integral human development for present and future generations."

Until 2000? Some of he greatest gains have been since then. Do you not realize the year we are in is likely to be the warmest on record, and is a lock for no worse than 3rd? Or are you still sticking with that old debunked no-warming-since-97 argument.

Shorter: "Waste not, want not." Something which every Conservative worthy of the name ascribes. Not exactly "new" Vatican stuff.

And we note that the Vatican also swallowed the IPC bullshit because the Vatican is also run by human beings, capable of error. Sometimes LARGE errors--which is why infallibility is limited to matters of doctrine and dogma.

Yes, I think the actual evidence, un-adjusted by such devices as removing troublesome thermometers, shows that 'warming' stopped around 2000.
