The usual wailing and snorting about 'the critical need for more public transit' money:
...Republicans sliced transit funding in half for Milwaukee and Madison during the past state budget cycle in 2021, which they said at the time was because the two cities collectively received hundreds of millions of dollars in federal coronavirus aid. Other transit systems in Wisconsin communities also received federal aid because of COVID-19 but saw no cuts to state funding in 2021.
Milwaukee's public transit system predicted last week it would face a nearly $26 million budget deficit annually, beginning in about two years, without new investment. If the agency can't close its budget gap, riders could see cuts and downsizing to more than half of bus routes as soon as 2025....
Yah, well--so what?
Here's a Lefty outfit putting as much shine on the rotten apple as possible back in August/'22:
...As of this week, the transit system will have given nearly 1.1 million more rides than this time last year, for a total of 8.5 million.
"The good news is that ridership is definitely bouncing back," said Kristina Hoffman, director of marketing and communications for MCTS.
Even so, in 2019 MCTS racked up nearly 29 million rides. One year later, that number dropped to 15.5 million, a nearly 50 percent decrease. In 2021, that number dropped again, to 14.3 million rides....
So half the money for half the riders.
Looks fair to us!
