Obozo deliberately obfuscates.
Of all the freedoms we cherish as Americans, of all the rights that we hold sacred, foremost among them is freedom of religion, the right to worship as we choose. It’s enshrined in the First Amendment of our Constitution — the law of the land, always and forever.
Ummnnnhhhh.....no. In relevant part, we have Amendment Number One:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;
In Sherbert v. Verner, 374 U.S. 398 (1963), the Supreme Court required states to meet the "strict scrutiny" standard when refusing to accommodate religiously motivated conduct. This meant that a government needed to have a "compelling interest" regarding such a refusal.
"Free exercise" has never been limited to "worship." Religion, by definition, encompasses not only the worldview of its adherents, but the 'exercise' thereof includes acting on moral teachings.
Obozo, the Liar-in-Chief, doesn't like that "acting on moral teachings" part--so he re-defines the First Amendment extremely narrowly: "worship."
He's wrong; he KNOWS he's wrong; and he plays his card anyway.
'S OK. He's a very bad memory as of January 2013.

What an inane post! There is no way a rational person would interpret the president's words as narrowly defining free exercise of religion. If fact, it is you who apparently narrowly defines "worship" in order to find SOMEthing, ANYthing to criticize in this speech.
Jim,it is absurd to think that the Obamacare contraception mandate (to which I am certain our host alludes) doesn't de facto narrowly define the First Amendment. It forces the Catholic Church to act against its beliefs. this is very simple, no matter how hard you try to make it.
Deek, "Jim" is a professional Murder, Inc. (Planned Parenthood) apologist.
Yes, I fully support safe, legal, life-saving, abortion-reducing health care as delivered by Planned Parenthood. However, I receive no monetary compensation.
it is absurd to think that the Obamacare contraception mandate... doesn't de facto narrowly define the First Amendment.
In truth, it is absurd to think that it does. It requires employers to provide insurance which meets certain requirements. It allows all practicing Catholics and anyone else the freedom to decide whether or not to use all available services.
I will bring up the fact again, that over half the states in the country had similar rules and there was no mass hysteria from the church about it until the "Muslim" in the White House came out for it.
By the way, Sharia forbids abortion. There must be some kind of disconnect here.
By the way (2), I just got back from church. The congregation will be holding a fund-raiser for the local Pregnancy Support Center, which I also support.
What...Unitarian?
I agree that there is a disconnect. The Left is LOADED with hypocrisy. Like supporting "safe, legal, life-saving, abortion-reducing healthcare as delivered by Planned Parenthood". You really believe the bullshit you write? 30-40% of their revenue comes from abortions...on the order of $200,000,000, depending on whose numbers you look at. That is "abortion reducing healthcare"? Dude, you have a really bad case of cognitive dissonance. You believe Planned Parenthood has a vested interest in reducing abortions? And your stance on the Catholic Church being required to provide for contraception and abortion borders on insanity. But I won't convince you of that because you are either insane or incredibly hypocritical. And I have that on good authority from someone who knows someone who knows someone who heard that about you. Kinda like the Romney and income tax thing. Burden of proof is now on you.
30-40% of their revenue comes from abortions
Yes, abortions are expensive. But only 3% of their services are abortions. Abortions are legal, by the way.
That is "abortion reducing healthcare"?
Dude! No. But contraception is.
And your stance on the Catholic Church being required to provide for contraception and abortion borders on insanity.
The Catholic church is required to provide compliant health insurance for their employees. The employees decide for themselves which services to use. Compliance expressly excludes abortions.
But I won't convince you of that because you are either insane or incredibly hypocritical.
And you are delusional and anti-American.
LCMS, BTW.
"Over half the states" required that all employers pay for abortions?
Perhaps that's the case; it's also the reason that most employers chose self-insured plans with which they could pick-and-choose exactly what they would cover (or not.)
The rest of your comment on the Statist imposition is jibberish.
There are no regulations requiring employers to pay for abortions.
Most employers choose self-insured plans? Do you have some statistics for that?
The rest of your comment on the Statist imposition is jibberish.
Really? Which part exactly?
I may be anti-your statist/marxist America, I am not anti-the America that provides for Life and Liberty
I confess that I'm feeding a troll.
