Then you better think again.
The Pew Center, a mid-road group, did a little research. While the Wisconsin state employee pension fund is in decent shape (only short $250 million in assets compared to total liabilities), the HEALTH-care fund (for State retirees) is in bad shape.
About $1.7 billion of 'bad shape.'
And these numbers were taken 6/30/08, before the market dump of 2009...
See all the numbers here. What's kinda scary is that Wisconsin is---relatively speaking---fine and dandy compared to other States (and the Feds, of course.)
