"Change", Alright

As Gateway reports, "change" is, indeed, the mantra at Obamaland.

Only a day or so after "required service" was on the website, it became "a goal."

The new version:

Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and by developing a plan so that all college students who conduct 100 hours of community service receive a universal and fully refundable tax credit ensuring that the first $4,000 of their college education is completely free.

The old version:

Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year

In the new version, he added a bribe. So "community service" is compensable with $4K in refundable tax credits (that's cash, for most students.)

Please check my math.

$4,000/100 hours = $40/hour. Tax and withholding free, no less. Double that for H.S. students going to college. What percentage of professional jobs pay $80K/year?

Why spend over 500 hours to take home $4K at a summer job, when President O will give you the same for 2-1/2 weeks of community organizing? This will be murder on fast food and other small businesses.

The opportunity for fraud will also be huge. I am certain that some community service groups will sign off for time that wasn't served. The work that is done will often be nonproductive and of limited benefit to society.

What a boondoggle.

BizzyBlog caught the $40/hr, too.

They ask some interesting questions.

Yah....now we'll have "college-educated" kids who have even LESS college qualifications than currently-admitted kids, learning stuff about "EEOC in the 21st Century" so they can become production-line workers?

For $32Bn?

It's his "full-employment for Lefty Education Professors" act. Think Bill Ayers...

And college costs will mysteriously rise by $4,000/yr.

I guess that means I have to work on my kids to get athletic scholarships.
