Roeser gets this one right:
Don’t pay attention to Fred Barnes of The Weekly Standard who laments that the defeat of the immigration reform bill will hobble the Republican party and stunt its growth with Hispanics. I agree with neo-conservatives on some things but not on this. The immigration reform bill was Ted Kennedy’s supposed triumph, suckering a group of Republican senators to push passage in the Senate without allowing much time for debate. The effrontery of it…and the cooperation of President Bush, a good man who is nevertheless misled by his compassionate side…alienated conservatives and produced talk radio’s finest hour since it engineered the defeat of Harriet Miers. Now Fred, who is almost slavishly close to the Bush White House, predicts a future of doom and gloom for conservatives. Not so. Don’t believe it.
Personally, I've known Barnes to be a prissypants twit ever since he knifed PJBuchanan in the back when Freddy was part of the original BushBot gang--the Bushmen.

Watch more and more Hispanics become voters (if by birthright citizenship if nothing else) and partly thanks to the xenophobic rants on talk radio vote more and more Democratic and then tell us that the future isn't doomridden and gloomy. You'll never stop them from coming here, having children, and either voting themselves or through their children. 2005-6 was the high-water mark for conservative power and they didn't even come close to tossing our huge illegal immigrant population out. As for how they vote, the GOP is driving them away, not bringing them in. The Republican party as it now exists is doomed by demographics. Bush tried to save it and he got his head handed to him as thanks.
Hispanics were never Republican voters to begin with and county club Repubs love cheap labor as well so it's no loss or win for anybody.
Anony, you're guessing.
And Bush tried to save a Pubbie party which, frankly, ain't all that hot; just kinda turned out to be another tax-and-spend bunch, except they reduced the 'tax' part.
As Dymphna said--who cares if the East Coast Rocky/Country Club/Silver Spoons are left in a corner sucking their thumbs?
We have a COUNTRY to worry about, not an offshore bank account (or three.)
