Global Warming = "Extinct" Critters = Mythology by Science

Well.

Seems that the "scientists" are--once again--not all that "scientific."

Conservationists are overestimating the number of species that have been driven to extinction, scientists have said.

A study has found that a third of all mammal species declared extinct in the past few centuries have turned up alive and well.

Unfortunately, Progressives are not yet extinct.

OK, here's why you should not rely on the Daily Mail as a source. They present the Okapi as an example as one such "rediscovered" mammals, seen again 5 years ago for the first time since 1959. Untrue. If you look at the primary source, the WWF (http://bit.ly/cdenJD), a reputable source, you'll learn the Okapi was seen for the first time in Virunga National Park since 1959. They were plentiful in other areas. Once you realize they are this sloppy in their opening statement, why would you trust anything they say thereafter.

Scientists estimate there exist 5 to 100 million species on earth. We have categorized 2 million of them. How sad that many more will be gone before we have the chance to appreciate them.

And, I read the article three times and I didn't see one word about global warming. Money quote:

"But while the report does not play down the threat from deforestation, overfishing or habitat destruction, it raises questions about the way species are classified as extinct."

So why the misleading headline?

The WWF is a credible source? Really? Seems that they ended up with some pretty crap data in that vaunted UN report.

Jim said...

Which "vaunted UN report" are you referring to? The article mentions nothing about WWF and any data they provided in a UN report. The only mention of WWF is that their researchers found Okapi tracks. Is that "crap data"?

Well, if it were okapi crap, it would be crap data ;)

SO...you're telling us that the paper made ONE error and you're defending "science" which made several THOUSAND --or more-- errors about what is?

OK.

The UN used some very un-scientific data from the WWF in their IPCC report...

The WWF is not a university or a research org. They are an advocacy group.

I don't find that sad at all. I find it rather incredible that the Earth is capable of supporting such a grand diversity of life. Why not just appreciate what you have instead of crying over things you might never see? Haven't you got more important things to worry about?

Mom, would you care to provide any source for your claim about WWF's contribution to the IPCC report?

""science" which made several THOUSAND --or more-- errors about what is?"

Which several thousand errors? The article says 67 out of 187 previously reported as missing mammal species have been found. And these were reported as early as 500 years ago. Could be scientific methods have improved in 5 centuries.

Issues with non-peer reviewed stuff pulled out of arses and regurgitated regarding receding Himalayan glaciers:

I'll see your "whatsupwiththat" and raise you Climate Progress. Your link is based on a Daily Mail article claiming a Dr. Muraru Lal was "The scientist behind the bogus claim in a Nobel Prize-winning UN report that Himalayan glaciers will have melted by 2035 last night admitted it was included purely to put political pressure on world leaders."

However, Dr. Lal asserts that the “most vilest allegations” in the Daily Mail story are utterly false.

Sure Jim

The guy at the center of the suspicion was quoted by a Progressive advocacy group on his complete and utter innocence....

Just ask him, he'll tell you.

In fact, if I'm not mistaken, the entire East Anglia group investigated themselves, declared themselves innocent, and told the rest of us to just continue to trust them.

Um.... no.

I thought good Catholics weren't suppose to lie, neoMom?

And, nice touch, Dad29, with your "unfortunately, Progressives are not yet extinct". Why don't you outright say that you would prefer them to be dead by your bare hands???

neomom said...

I'm sorry - I didn't catch your name...

But please point out my supposed lies.

Dad29 said...

It would take too long with the bare-handed method, silly.

And with that statement offers proof as to who is the TRUE threat to MY country. So much for "Christian" values in the sanctity of life.
