In the last few months, it's become a commonplace for school officials and teachers to address grade-school children as "friends."
It caught my interest, because "girls and boys" is the time-honored way of speaking to children.
“When addressing a group of people, make sure to use gender-neutral language,” GLSEN said. “For example, instead of saying ‘Welcome, ladies and gentlemen,’ say ‘Welcome, everyone.’
BINGO!! It has nothing to do with 'friendship,' and everything to do with the New Hotness PC: gender-neutral. Best of all, it comes from GLSEN, "....founded by a group of teachers in 1990, we knew that educators play key roles in creating affirming learning environments for LGBTQ youth...."
Betcha the Waukesha School Board hasn't caught this one yet!
