This is terrible.
Baker Meister has been closed since March 1 when a fire broke out in the owner's apartment above the store at N51 W34922 E. Wisconsin Ave. Four and a half months later, owners Michael and Gwendolyn Schuerstedt announced on the Baker Meister Facebook page that they are moving to Elkhorn.
"Sadly after four and a half months of waiting to hear news on a restoration update and property owner not taking action to route power for lighting and water well for a proper clean up process, we will not be reopening in that location," the Schuerstedts wrote. "We are doing our best to clean up even with lack of power and water."
The Elkhorn location will open in the coming weeks, and Schuerstedts said they are seeking out a satellite location near the Okauchee and Oconomowoc areas in the coming months....
Their bakery is outstanding; the kind of bakery you remember eating before mass-industrialization took over in most grocery stores.
But ELKHORN? That'll make Lake Geneva people happy.
On the other hand, at least it will re-open, so one can make a day-trip out of it.
