Watching your "side" lose is never easy. Get over it.
I believe the armed forces will obey lawful orders regardless of who gives them. Disarming American citizens is not a lawful order.
Well it's hard to say, troops would need a general or someone to follow ala the French Counterrevolution. Of course in that case, peasants of the Vendee almost forced their leaders to participate.
