All told, 7,783 reported hate crime incidents occurred in 2008, including 1,381 in California.
Near 20% just in California.

Of course, that has nothing to do with the fact that California is the most populous state, does it?
I don't think they have 20% of the population, do they?
In CA., I don't think you can swing a dead cat without hitting a protected group.
Sure you can, Dan. Christians are not protected. Nor are anyone who voted for traditional marriage in Cal. The media mentioned, albeit in a quick blurb, the vandalism of Mormon and Christian churches due to the vote. Of course, they weren't called hate crimes.
