Obama v. Facts, Again

About the nameless cancer victim in an Obama t-shirt...

"I got a letter -- I got a note today from one of my staff -- they forwarded it to me -- from a woman in St. Louis who had been part of our campaign, very active, who had passed away from breast cancer. She didn't have insurance. She couldn't afford it, so she had put off having the kind of exams that she needed. And she had fought a tough battle for four years..." --B Obama

Well, not exactly.

When Melanie Shouse began feeling ill, eventually finding a lump in her breast, she couldn't afford a doctor. She and her partner had just used their savings to open a business.

...Using herself as an example, Ms. Shouse said she had put off going to a doctor because her health insurance policy had a $5,000 deductible. She called it "'hit by a bus' kind of insurance. --St Louis Post-Dispatch

In other words... She was an idiot.

You simply don't screw around when it comes to finding a lump in the ta-ta.

Sorry, a $5000 deductible is NOT bankruptcy-inducing. I'd bet she had a higher credit card balance.

She chose her business over comprehensive health insurance. If she only had a $5000 deductible, she could have worked out a payment plan. It's amazing how little doctors will take in payment, as long as you keep making payments.

$5,000 on a credit card or payment plan or death?

Pretty simple answer. I'll go in hock to stick around for awhile.
