Barrett Whacked With Pipe

At one time, the Mayor always had a security detail composed of one (or more) MPD officers.

Looks like things changed.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett was recovering Sunday morning after beating beaten with a pipe after leaving the Wisconsin State Fair with his family Saturday night.

The mayor is said to be in good condition this morning.

The incident occurred at about 10:45 p.m. in the 8800 block of W. Orchard St. in West Allis, according to a joint statement from the West Allis police and Milwaukee police.

Barrett and his family were returning to their car when they saw an altercation and heard a woman shouting that someone should call 911. Barrett began calling 911 when the suspect who had been attacking the woman, ran toward Barrett and began striking him with a metal pipe.
The suspect then fled the scene.

Police are still searching for the man, who police said had a criminal arrest record.

Based on the last sentence, it looks like a DV situation, not your basic normal hooligan-assault deal.

I hope they find the thug that did this and staple his gonads to a 4x6. Beating a woman is cowardly and beyond the pale. I'd also like to know why the Mayor didn't even have 1 BG handy. That should be mandatory as there are a lot of nutcases out there these days.

I give the mayor high marks for doing the right thing. But yeah...where is the security detail?

Looks like trouble for the Walker Express. The same day that the Evil One stands down, the Crime-Fighting Mayor takes up the gauntlet in spectacular fashion.

Much of the so-called Walker advantage in the general election evaporates if Barrett is the Democratic candidate. Walker touts his popularity in the state's largest city and county, but the Crime Fighting Mayor is also very popular.

If Republican voters think about this aspect of their primary, it could help Howdy-Doody (Neumann).

Doubtful, Anon. Barrett is more interested in running the schools.

And he ain't THAT popular.

As an adult, law abiding and sane citizen Mr. Barrett should have been able to pull our his licensed handgun and point it at the thug and, if this did not work, put two rounds to the head.

Only in a cartoon.

How do you not know it would work, krshorewood?

Often, just the appearance of a gun in the hands of a law-abiding citizen defending himself or others is enough to dissuade violent thugs. They want to spread the pain around, not be on the receiving end of it.

Or should we just outlaw pipes now, too, since they are obviously dangerous weapons?
