And the Canadians want to send it here to be refined and consumed.
Too bad the Obozo Administration is in office!
The EPA said that despite two lengthy reports, the State Department still has not done sufficient analysis of the project’s impact on the environment. The letter urged State to conduct a more thorough analysis of oil spill risks and alternative pipeline routes. …
As for joining the Canadian pipeline and moving petroleum from the Bakken (ND) deposit:
The State Department is putting pressure on TransCanada to add safety standards to its proposal that go “beyond those required by law.”
Face it. These people are NOT governing in the interests of the citizens. (Surprise!!)

When I'm not bitching about your politics in the combox of this blog, I spend quite about of time dealing with contractors out in the Bakken. There's definately a serious infrastructure problem out there (pipeline, refining, highway, housing, etc.) that needs to be resolved. One way or another they're going to have to figure a way to catch up to the absolute exposion in crude oil extraction going on out there. There's no better time than now for the government to stream line infrastructure development and construction regardless of political views on domestic oil exploration.
