Jerry Topczewski, attempting to put a high hard one past the faithful in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee:
"Archbishop Weakland is able to comment on what he knew, but many if not all of those involved in these cases are dead," Jerry Topczewski, speaking for the archdiocese, said Wednesday. "We'll never know fully what happened or the intent of these people and their actions that date back 20, 30 and 40 years."
"....the INTENT of these people [child-rapists]"?
The INTENT, Jerry?

You just earned a large modicum of respect for this post, daddio.
All right, that was silly. I meant "amount." 22-month-old climbing all over me and disruptng thoughts. My jumbo shrimp moment.
Umnnhhhh...you won't find me defending child-rapists, NOR the Bishops who played "Hide, seek, lie like Hell" here.
Ever.
No, you've been pretty consistent -- however, there are quite a few Catholic apologists. I'm sure you would agree there.
I don't want the Church to be bankrupted -- I do want its dodging and spinning to end.

The only ones defending the deplorable actions of the guilty, abusive priests and bishops are...the guilty, abuisve priests and bishops.
Well, your first wish is about to be dashed--the Milwaukee Archdiocese will most likely declare BK if this lawsuit succeeds.
And for practical purposes, the dodging has come to an end, except where there's a lawsuit in play. Topczewski's remarks were most likely put into his script by the lawyers.
As to others 'apologizing,' you won't find them among the laity. Maybe among the corruptocrats...
Amy, you're hallucinating. This coverup went on for centuries. To claim that every single one of the guilty parties and their defenders/enablers was sexually abusive is extreme denial.
Kind of like my Dad's third wife ( a very devout Catholic) adamantly stating there are no gay priests.
This coverup went on for centuries.
Really? Can you prove that? Seems to me the problem came up and was more widespread in recent decades, when those who are hostile to church teaching decided to put self before church and the culture at large encouraged it.
I said those covering for the priests and bishops are the priests and bishops. I didn't say they were all sexually abusive. Some are and some are guilty of having sympathy for the priests and covering for them. Perhaps I should have thrown in their creepy lawyers, too, probably including E Michael McCann.
But lay Catholics like me, and dad29 here, are guilty of nothing. Least of all making excuses for those who defied the teaching of the church and abused their authority and abused innocent victims.
Come on over to the Lutheran side. With the Reformation, we left the pedophiles behind. And we let women hold the same jobs that men hold!
WHICH Lut'rans?
AELC, Missou', WisSyn?
C'mon. At least there's only one Roman Catholic church.
Besides, it's more fun to be here, where all the action is.
Come on over to the Lutheran side. With the Reformation, we left the pedophiles behind.
Oh, really? http://www.shasta.com/sphaws/pastors.html
Protestant ministers can marry, and women can be ministers....but it still doesn't solve the problem of pedophiles/ephebophiles.
And we let women hold the same jobs that men hold!
Nah. I was raised WELS. Didn't suit my tastes, or my theology. I'd much rather have the Eucharist, which can only be consecrated by a man acting "in persona Christi", thankyouverymuch.
Because the problem is with the people, and not the theology.
