Tiffany: Vaguely Common Sense

There are some conservative "influencers" who kvetch (technically, bitch) about Tiffany's platform.  Based on this interview, it's difficult to figure out exactly why--but we have ideas.

... He says his biggest focus if elected will be affordability and accountability.

One aspect of affordability he says he is focused on is lowering property taxes. He says as he has traveled the state, he's been hearing from people who are on fixed incomes that are struggling to keep up with their growing property tax bills.

“State government can help by reducing that burden on people,” Congressman Tom Tiffany, Republican candidate for governor, said.

“How do you plan on reducing that burden?” asked Capitol Correspondent Meredith Hackler.

“Will end the 400-year property tax. I will propose that on day one,” Tiffany said. “The accountability part of it, we will audit all of state government. We are going to do that on day one.” ...

So he is not going to raise income taxes; rather, he'll reduce (future) property taxes.  We'd all like to see more prop-tax reductions, but schools, cities, and counties love to spend money, and--frankly--that's not the State's problem.  He could say that, using Crowley's extra-special sales-tax increase (and upcoming prop-tax increase) as prime examples.  And it does NOT matter if Crowley gets the nom (he won't.)  He's another Democrat, pissing money down the drain, like all of them do.)

Then there's health-care.

 ...Unlike Democrats running, he doesn’t want to expand eligibility for state-run healthcare programs but rather create more competition in the market.

“We need to offer more options,” Tiffany said. “More choices, more options for people rather than restricting them, because that is what is happening at this point, we are ending up with fewer options."

“Do you think breaking up some of the monopolies is a solution when it comes to healthcare coverage and health insurance?” asked Meredith Hackler.

“Choice, competition, and transparency. Competition is always healthy and we should have more competition,” Tiffany said....

Right direction, vague mumbling, Tom.  Why are there "restrictions" on healthcare?  BECAUSE OF STATE INTERFERENCE in REGULATIONS.  (Why is that?  ObamaCare.)  Same with the insurers:  we all know that ObamaCare is stuffing insurers with $$$Umpty-Megabucks.  Say so, Tom.  You're pussyfooting here.  Do you really need campaign bucks from those scum-suckers?

... “No data centers should be built unless they meet a series of conditions,” Tiffany said. “One of them is we should remove the tax incentive that was signed by Governor Evers a couple of years ago. These are very wealthy companies. They do not need subsidizes from the taxpayers of Wisconsin.” ...

Oracle, the outfit behind the mammoth Port Washington DC, is not as wealthy as you think, Tom.  And you forgot another very important piece:  the DC's MUST pay the freight for all the electrical infrastructure.  All of it.  

(By the way, we have our suspicions about ATC's 'friendly offer' to the DCs, which apparently removes the infrastructure burden from the DCs and puts it onto ATC.  That's fine--except if this whole DC thing melts down in 10 years, meaning ATC has to pay the freight going forward--and who, exactly, pays ATC?  OTHER RATEPAYERS--like you.)  C'mon, Tom.  

 Now here's a nice meaty, item.

...Tom Tiffany says rooting out fraud would be a major focus of his administration, including expanded audits of state agencies, even though the Legislative Audit Bureau already does that work.

“I want to do a deep-dive, work in coordination with those federal agencies that deal with Medicaid and other federal programs like that, and let's make sure that we root out all the fraud,” Tiffany said....

That reference to the LAB is a cute deflection.  The reporter-ette knows--and Tiffany knows--and every taxpayer knows--that Trump's DOGE effort will turn up all sorts of spending problems in Wisconsin, concentrated in Medicaid but likely in lots of other places.  That's what Tiffany means when he says "....coordination with those Federal agencies..."

The Democrat Party of Insurrection and Insanity is sweating blood over this--as are their insurance-company donors.  So maybe Tiffany is PO'ing his insurance donors?  We'll see.

 ....Tiffany says he wants to see more money going into classrooms and paying good teachers, and less to administrative costs. He also claims the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction lowered standards, which he says he will change if he is governor. He also wants to make sure colleges are preparing future teachers with the skills they need to better reading outcomes for kids.

“We need to make sure our colleges of instruction are teaching the next generation of teachers the right way the science of reading,” Tiffany said. “We need to make sure that happens and then we may need to have remediation with some of the teachers around the state to make sure we are doing the science of reading correctly.”...

Tiffany pins the tail on the donkey with his "administrative costs" slam, and likewise hits a grand-slam with the "reading is fundamental" stuff.  We'll be happy to trade (even-up) money into good teachers for money taken away from administrative bloat and barnacles.  The Gov has a lot of budget sway; he can do much of this.  However, his promise to fix DPI's standards........is..........a definite maybe.  This State elects a DPI Superintendent (for no good reason at all), so Tiffany may have a problem there.
