At one time, Catholics were told to shun movies which favorably depicted immoral activity. Rating Hollywood's output was done by an outfit called the Legion of Decency, and those ratings had a significant impact on movie revenues.
That was then.
Now, certain "Catholics" organize viewing of on-screen homosexual activity. You won't be surprised to learn that this is in the Chicago of Cdl. Bernardin and Cdl. Cupich, and you won't be surprised to learn that the Cathedral bulletin carried the announcement.
(This brings to mind the banishment of Fr. Phillips from St John Cantius. +Cupich hung him out to dry with some vague language about "improper conduct", but neither criminal nor civil action(s) were filed, nor was Phillips removed from the priesthood. In fact, +Cupich specifically denied that there was "illegal" or "immoral" activity here. Very strange, indeed.)
It also calls to mind the death of the Legion of Decency and its successor. That successor was a part of the Catholic Bishops' Conference, but by 2005 that office lost credibility. You may be interested to know that the Presidents of the Bishops' Conference (USCCB) during the death-throes of the ratings system included +Bernardin, +Quinn (San Fran) and +Roach (MSP). The coffin was nailed shut following the term of +Fiorenza, whose successor was +Gregory, now in D.C.
You may draw your own conclusions.........
