Did You Cut Back on Spending This Year?

If you had to cut back on the budget a bit this year, don't worry.

The House of Representatives is doing its damndest to offset your saving.

"In the final month of fiscal year 2009, House committees and offices went on a shopping spree, spending more than $60 million left in their budgets before it disappeared. More than $12 million went towards purchasing computer hardware, which could include new laptops and desktops.

"According to a Sunlight Foundation Reporting Group analysis of six months of congressional spending data released by the House Clerk's Office, House members and various committee offices spent more than $673 million in the last half of 2009 on salaries for staff, travel and outside vendors, --Sunlight Foundation

$673 million in just 6 months.

Shared sacrifice: YOU sacrifice. Congress shares!

What's the context? What's normal? This entire post is meaningless without more information.

Yah, Jim, it's just awful.

But you, too, can go to the Sunlight Foundation website and look it all up.

Good for you.

OK, I read the full report. My comment still applies.

I spent $325 on lunch Thursday. Just thought you should know.
