Bacon Shortage?

Besides the personal losses and corporate loss of production and income, (thank God, no deaths or injuries) the Patrick Cudahy fire will have another very important repercussion on the national economy.

A bacon shortage is possible.

Hmmmmmmmm...

I smoked a 15 pound pork belly yesterday and have another fresh one in the deep freeze. What do you think my bacon will go for in our underground economy?

I may have finally made an investment in the right thing at the right time.

Sounds like the Cudahys have been on the receiving end of a lot of pork for a long time.

In all seriousness (after accounting for the workers and the fire fighters), all day long, all I could think about with the passing of every hour that the fire raged, was that with every timber that burned so too did the likelihood that this plant would be rebuilt here or even in our state.

I hope I am wrong.

The local media seemed rather upset with a bunch of minor safety violations that appear to have NOTHING to do with this fire.

The company has been here for 160 years and there are some really old sections of that plant… yeah the sprinklers in some parts may be marginal and the timbers may be dry, but this is the time to get the community behind this company!

As long as there is a government in Washington I don't think we'll ever have to worry about a bacon shortage...oh wait, maybe that's just plain ol pork!

Agreed with anony... all I could think about were the 2000 jobs that just got very tenuous. With the biz-friendly climate here, one has to wonder where this plant's production will go....

I hear North and South Carolina are nice - Smithfield anyone?
