Obama: "TEOTWAWKI"

Well, this must be serious, eh?

President Barack Obama warned Thursday that the nation is facing a recession so deep that, without action, it could turn into one that "we may not be able to reverse." The threat of an irreversible recession that could "linger for years" is very real, Obama said, urging Congress to pass his economic recovery act."

Time to start that veggie garden and buy the chickens and chicken-coop, I guess.

I guess the real issue here is his employment of the "fear mongering" tactic.

Throughout the campaign, the O told listeners that he would never use the famous "fear mongering" that Bush employed (it is easily arguable that Bush never used fear tactics - this was an O fabrication).

Another great lie to get the savior in office. The list goes on and he hasn't even been in power for a month.

Bush raised fears that were often unwarranted. These warnings, on the other hand, are entirely warranted.

Neo, right on point.

Let me guess, Scott. W raised fears of terrorist retaliation and continued terrorist attacks on the US so he could justify water boarding and wire taps? Hmmm?

S the O and Savior is screaming depression so he can spend our money on instituting programs and bereuacracies controlling every aspect of our lives?

Which one is unwarranted?

Scott, your posts are those of someone who could be called a "mind-numbed robot."

If you expect intelligent response, you ought to post intelligent comments.

Yea Scott - are you seriously answering these questions or just spitting out some inane talking points? Do you honestly feel that this is some type of argument (or defense)?

"Bush raised fears that were often unwarranted. These warnings, on the other hand, are entirely warranted."

I'm much more convinced of threats from Islamic terrorists (which is what I assume you're referring to) than I am about the second "Great Depression" -- especially since the routes Obama's proposing resemble FDR's policies, which actually extended the economic woes of the 1930s.

It's easier to rebuild economic troubles; you can't rebuild Americans blown to bits by Islamic nut jobs.

And the Iraq war. And his own reelection. But yeah. Pretty much.

Obama is publicly fighting the people trying to obstruct the best chance we have at pulling out of our economic nose dive--i.e., you guys--and all you can do is whine that he's scaring people? Look at the facts, for goodness sakes. We're in dire straits. And he's not proposing "controlling every aspect of our lives." Christ, come back down to earth--it's nice here! He's talking about doing the one thing you can do when the economy is circling the drain and lowering interest rates and giving tax rebates don't work to stimulate it--spend. Spend like the wind. On infrastructure, new technologies and education. And any tax cuts that can be shown to directly stimulate spending as opposed to saving or debt reduction. And there, in a nutshell, you have the Obama stimulus plan.

Well, Scott, you proved my thesis.

You ARE a mind-numbed robot.

This is your defense to Amy's question:

"And the Iraq war. And his own reelection. But yeah. Pretty much."

What? Are you serious? Huh?

Also, I love these "dire straights" that you are referring to. The economy is actually projected to rebound in 2009 and you're talking about "dire straights". 'Spend! Spend! Spend!'

All historical evidence proves that government spending doesn't help recessions, tax cuts do. Get serious.

Um, that would be the American Public by some wide margins now...I thought he was elected to serve them?
