Dad - Forgive my off topic comment, but have you been feeding Wisconsin Catholic firsts, remarkables, etc. to Wisconsinology? I am certain that Mr. Flasputnik would appreciate the information.
Do not judge, so that you may not be judged. For with the judgment you make you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. Why do you see the speck in your neighbor’s eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye? Or how can you say to your neighbor, “Let me take the speck out of your eye,” while the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbor’s eye.
My, Emily, you are judgmental.
By the way, Emily, you DO know the actual meaning of the quotation you supplied, no?
Judging ACTIONS is just fine. "By their fruits you shall know them."
C'mon, NT scholar: take a stab at telling all of us the real meaning of your citation.
This should be fun.
Nice try, Emily. But that passage deals not with the earthly judgment you apply it to - but the eternal judgment reserved for God and God alone.
It is actually one of the Spiritual Works of Mercy to admonish the sinner for his/her sins and set them on the right path.
"Jordan Fades back...."
You fill my heart with sorrow.
I'm sorry you feel that way, Emily.
It fills *my* heart with sorrow that people believe they will reach their fullness solely through living a life free of morals, judgment, or restraint.
Catholic teaching on homosexuality is extremely compassionate. It recognizes that same sex attraction (SSA) is not a choice, just as being heterosexual is not a choice. However, the Church holds both those with SSA and those who are straight to the same expectation: sexual behavior is to be confined to the sanctity of marrige and open to the possibility of creating children.
Outside that arrangement, both hetero and homosexual persons are to remain chaste.
And there are *many* SSA persons within the Church who strive to live according to their faith.
I did a post about the circular logic involved in typical "Judge not" scenarios:
http://shakingoffsleep.blogspot.com/2006/09/circular-disqualifier-motes-and-beams.html
which basically say that anyone that says "Judge not" says so because they are judging, hence they've violated their own advice.
